Dufy

Raoul Dufy (1877 - 1953) was a French Fauvist painter. He developed a colorful, decorative style that became fashionable for designs of ceramics and Art Deco textiles, as well as decorative schemes for public buildings. He is noted for scenes of open-air social events. He was also a draftsman, printmaker, book illustrator, scenic designer, a designer of furniture, and a planner of public spaces. The subject matter of his paintings is famously happy, as he produced many pleasure-filled images of French leisure activities like horse races and regattas. With hyper-intense colours, his style is both avant-garde and decorative. Another considerable part of Dufy's artistic output was print design for textiles. Much loved amongst haute couture designers are the exotic motifs and geometric patterns by this versatile artist.
